Several of the poorer nations receiving COVID-19 vaccines through a global sharing scheme do not have enough vaccine doses to continue the vaccination programs, stated the World Health Organization (WHO).
WHO senior adviser, Dr Bruce Aylward, said that 90 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been delivered to 131 countries under the COVAX program. However, this is not enough to protect populations from the virus which continues to spread globally. The shortfall comes at a time when some African nations are witnessing a third wave of infections.
